The story and details
The story: Roosters were a favourite subject of Edo-period painters — proud, comic, and full of colour against an empty ground. Here the snow is left almost bare, so the red combs and the dark, glossy tail feathers do all the work.
Details: Glossy black ceramic · 11 oz or 15 oz · the picture printed on both sides with the artist’s name beneath · dishwasher-safe (top rack) and microwave-safe · lead- and BPA-free.
The artist
葛飾北斎 — Katsushika Hokusai, 1760–1849.
Creator of the Great Wave — the old man mad about painting.
