The story and details

The story: Before Utamaro became famous for his close-up portraits, he set full-length figures into landscapes like this one. Blossom-viewing, hanami, drew the whole city outdoors each spring, and prints like this were treasured as much for the newest kimono and hairstyles as for the scenery. A century later Paris fell for them: in 1891 the writer Edmond de Goncourt devoted a whole book to Utamaro. This shirt carries that spring afternoon with you, printed to order from the original woodblock print.

Details: 100% cotton · 260 gsm mid-weight · relaxed fit · crew neck · printed on the front.

Care: Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle; do not bleach; tumble dry low; iron at low temperature, avoiding the print; do not dry clean.
